An Unfortunate Announcement...
...followed by a bit of reassurance.
I apologize in advance, as the following update may send you into a deep depression — or, possibly, even cardiac arrest — due to its suddenness and severity.
After two-and-a-half years of consistently posting Weekly Recaps of movie news every single Saturday evening, I have found myself reach a point where I don’t think I can keep up the pace anymore. Simply put, I have a lot of “adulting“ shit that I’m currently juggling right now, and as fun as it’s been writing these posts, I really can’t justify carving 3-5 hours out of my weekly schedule to draft these things anymore.
This isn’t to say that I am going to stop posting on Development Hell altogether, because I’m not. Make no mistake: I have a fucking ball on this page, and there will be plenty of stuff for me to yap about in the coming months. It’s just the Weekly Recap format that is likely going to stop. For those of you who’ve subscribed to me more recently, I need to emphasize: I have not missed a single week — not a single, solitary calendar week — since I began these posts back in April of 2023. It was already a bit of a challenge, albeit a fun challenge, to keep up this productivity throughout my college semesters and busy holiday periods… but now, I find myself completely slammed during weekdays, and I need to devote the little time I *do* have to myself on the weekends to screenwriting. As much of an inspirational, once-in-a-generation genius as I am, my brain only contains so much energy, and I have some big-boy shit I need to prioritize.
I want to take a moment to thank all of you who have been consistent readers of mine over the past few years. This was something I initially started just to have something to brandish on my resume, but as time went on, it became more of a cozy, relaxing routine for me. It feels nice to publish my sarcastic, unfiltered thoughts about an industry I’m in a love-hate relationship with, and it feels even nicer to have a small-but-supportive audience willing to read them. Some of you whom I know in real life have complimented me about this page in-person, which I am endlessly appreciative of. Some of you whom I don’t know have subscribed to Development Hell and liked many of my posts anyway, which I am also thankful for. One of you even pledged $80 annually to this page, which is fucking crazy, since I didn’t even ask for my followers to donate, but I am obviously not complaining either!
All jokes aside, thank you guys for reading these overly-long “summaries” of movie news each week. I hope you’ve enjoyed the sheer proliferation of my Weekly Recaps — and I *really* hope you guys don’t unsubscribe, because again, I AM NOT QUITTING THIS PAGE ALTOGETHER! Whenever some really, really big news drops in the film world, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be hopping out of semi-retirement to analyze it in my sly, holier-than-thou fashion. (Ball’s in your court, The Smashing Machine Oscar campaign.) It definitely won’t be weekly from this point forward, but it’ll definitely be… something. Maybe not monthly… but certainly more frequent than yearly. A secret fourth increment that has yet to be recognized by the Oxford English Dictionary, perhaps.
With that, enjoy the rest of your weekend. I love you, and I’ll be back again with some epic words of wisdom before you know it.
P.S. If someone you know is bragging about seeing One Battle After Another in VistaVision this week when they know you can’t go, please beat them to death with a hammer. It’s what Jesus would have wanted.
